Bridgewater-Raritan High School's football team fell to host Morris Knolls High School, 34-14, on Saturday afternoon, September 14, in Denville. Bridgewater-Raritan, which dropped to 1-2, will next play Hunterdon Central High School on Friday, September 20, in Flemington.
Another week that featured an offensive shootout resulted in one difference for the Bridgewater-Raritan High School football team.
This week produced a victory.
A wild shootout victory at that.
Bridgewater-Raritan lost a lead and then rallied to post a 52-48 victory over Piscataway High School on Friday evening, September 6, in Piscataway.
Nick DiEsso scored a touchdown from five yards out with 1:39 left in the game to provide the winning points.
Piscataway scored a touchdown to gain a 48-45 lead with 3:25 remaining in the fourth period before Bridgewater-Raritan drove to score the winning touchdown by DiEsso.
The victory was a rebound for Bridgewater-Raritan, which opened the 2024 scholastic football season with a 40-38 defeat against Notre Dame High School on Friday, August 30, in Lawrence Township.
School may not yet be in session, but the 2024 boys’ soccer season
kicked off for both Bridgewater-Raritan High School and South Brunswick High School on the final day of the month, Saturday, August 31.
In a crossover between the Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC) and Skyland Conference, Mason Ianniello delivered the game’s lone goal in the 24th minute for South Brunswick in its 1-0 victory over Bridgewater-Raritan (0-1) in Bridgewater.
“Overall, we played well and defended well,” said Mark Heinbach, who is in his second year as head coach for Bridgewater-Raritan. “We just have to get a
little better at finishing and breaking the other team down in our attacking third.”
In defeat for Bridgewater-Raritan, senior goalkeeper Adrian Arias made two saves in the first half, while junior goalkeeper Michael Battista produced two more saves in the second half.
