JFK students take a stroll and raise funds while enjoying the outside

It was a wonderful day to go outside and take a walk–and raise money along the way.

Along the way was the path that circles the outdoor park in front of the John F. Kennedy Primary School.

And that path was swarmed with JFK students and staff on Friday, May 17, when the annual—and highly anticipated—JFK Walk A Thon was held.

This popular event was once again coordinated by the tireless and passionate efforts of the JFK Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

The co-chairs who directed this fun outside exercise were PTO members Heather Dinsmore and Sharon Sofield.

“The Walk A Thon is held to raise funds to be used for school events, assemblies, and field trips,’’ said Ms. Dinsmore, who is a Recording Secretary for the JFK PTO.

Ms. Dinsmore explained that families donated money to sponsor the students in their hike around the front area.

Prizes were awarded to the top two students in the two age groups—Grades K-2 and 3-4—who raised the most money.

A raffle was also contested and the rewards were five gift cards to Barnes & Noble.

The weather cooperated, too. Clouds and some sun, with temperatures in the 60s and into the 70s.

“It is a day to just walk and enjoy the outside,’ Ms. Dinsmore said.
